PayPal Express Optional Credit Card Setting Print

  • 0

You may have had customers complaining that PayPal was not letting them use their credit cards and wanted them to open a PayPal account instead.  What happens is, when PayPal sees a credit card used to purchase, they track it and, after a certain number of uses (on the entire internet), they will "encourage" the user to open an account.

First of all, if you don't have a PayPal business account, you should have one.

Here's where the business account helps.  You can set PayPal to always show the credit card option.  There are other settings in the same spot that will benefit the use of PayPal on your site.

Here's the info for those of you with a business account.
  1. Log into PayPal and go to your home page
  2. Hover over your name in the upper right and select Account Settings.
  3. Scroll down to PRODUCTS & SERVICES and click on Website payments.
  4. The fourth item down should be Website preferences.  Click on the Update button for it.
  5. Auto return should be on and the link should be https://YOUR_SITE.com/index.php?main_page=checkout_process with your URL versus YOUR_SITE.
  6. Click Save
  7. Leave Payment data trasfer set to Off
  8. Block non-encrypted website payment can be left Off.
  9. PayPal account optional should be set to On -- This is the biggie.
  10. Contact telephone number should be set to On (required field)
  11. You can decide if you want Express Checkout settings to support bank transfers.  With bad checks, money orders, etc. we leave it at No
When you exit the page, your settings will be saved.
