What's in a Name? Print

You find, take, or receive an image.  It's perfect for your product or category.  It's especially good to show the operation of the main product so you put it in the description of the category or product.

Great!  This is going to really help sales.  But, you go to your store and the images are not there!  ?!?!?

You've checked the accessibility of your site and all the alt tags have been either generated by Zen Cart or yourself. But that one item that no one else has but everyone wants?  Why isn't it doing well in search engines?  It's a great image after all.

These are just two things that can be affected by images and how they are named.

We'll soon be moving away from .gif, .jpg, and .png to .webp (Google's latest gift to responsive e-commerce).  Getting the filenames right is the first step.

We couldn't say it any better than an article by Shawn Young on Image File Naming Conventions.  Done in 2020, it is still very pertinent today.

Take a look at https://shawnyoung.com/journal/2020-04-19-image-file-naming-conventions.php.

When you've got that sorted, check out our article on Image Sizing. (coming soon)
